News and Events
Thank you to all the families who came to visit us during our Open House on March 23rd! We enjoyed seeing our students excitedly give you a tour around the campus and classrooms, introduce you to their friends, show off their science projects, and explain the sports statistics and announcements.
West Covina Unified School District will host two different support groups throughout the school year in the Family Resource Center. The Successful Stepparenting group will be held every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month and the Grandparenting group will be held every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Both groups will offer sessions at 10:00 am and 6:30pm and will be facilitated by Bonnie Marker, LMFT WCUSD Clinical School Psychologist.
Welcome to Rio Verde Academy
Rio Verde Academy is part of the West Covina Unified School District (WCUSD). We are an educational facility developed specifically to serve the needs of K–12 children and young adults aged 18–22 diagnosed with emotional disturbance (ED). We tailor our programs to meet the requirements set forth by the U.S. Department of Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Our team of experts is here to help students receive a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment possible.
Although we welcome you and your child to our school, our program is by referral only through the East San Gabriel Valley SELPA. Please contact your district office or your district special education office for more information and guidance about enrolling your child here.
A Message from Our Principal
As Interim Principal at Rio Verde Academy, it is my pleasure to work with elementary, middle and high school students. Our goal is to provide all students with a positive and rewarding experience. I look forward to supporting our growth as a resource and educational facility for students and families who face the challenge of social emotional concerns.
Every child at Rio Verde Academy is important. Our entire team is dedicated to ensure that our programs are designed to help students succeed while promoting the skills and knowledge needed to play the game. On behalf of Rio Verde Academy, thank you for supporting your student and our school.
The West Covina Unified School District is committed to providing a safe school environment where all individuals in education are afforded equal access and opportunities. Specifically, state law prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender in enrollment, counseling, and the availability of physical education, athletic activities, and sports. Transgender students shall be permitted to participate in gender-segregated school programs and activities (e.g., athletic teams, sports competitions, and field trips) and to use facilities consistent with their gender identity. The District assures that lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission or participation in District programs.
